The ISR Performance Solid Subframe Bushings are solid aluminum replacements for the factory rubber rear subframe bushings on the BMW E36 3 Series. Replacing worn or aging factory rubber with solid aluminum eliminates subframe deflection under load, transferring more of the suspension's energy into the dampers where it belongs instead of being absorbed by flexing bushings. The most impactful chassis upgrade you can make on a track or drift-focused E36.
What It Does
The E36 rear subframe is rubber-mounted, and the factory rubber bushings are a known weak point on any aggressively driven E36. Under hard cornering, hard launches, or any time the rear is loaded up, the entire subframe shifts on its rubber mounts before the dampers can do their job. That movement absorbs energy that should be going to suspension travel, results in vague rear-end feel, and is the root cause of the well-known E36 subframe-tearing problem on high-mile or hard-driven cars. Solid aluminum bushings lock the subframe to the chassis and put that energy back where it belongs.
Critical Fitment
Fits all E36 3 Series subframes EXCEPT 318ti models. The 318ti uses a different rear subframe setup that is not compatible with these bushings.
NVH Trade-Off
This is an upgrade you feel. The trade-off is added noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) compared to factory rubber. Most owners running coilovers and aftermarket suspension on an E36 consider the response improvement worth the NVH, but it's something to be aware of on a daily driver.
Installation Note
Removing the factory rubber bushings and installing solid replacements requires a press, hydraulic puller, or a trip to a shop with the right tools. Plan accordingly.
Fitment
- 1992-1999 BMW E36 3 Series (all engine variants except 318ti)
- BMW E36 M3
- NOT compatible with BMW 318ti
Pair With Diff Mount Bushings
For a complete rear chassis tightening, pair these subframe bushings with the ISR Performance E36 Differential Mount Bushings (IS-E36-DIFF). The diff bushings handle the diff-to-subframe interface; these handle the subframe-to-chassis interface. Both together transform the rear end on a hard-driven E36.
